For years I’ve been listening to my favorite radio station here in western Washington, 88.5 KNKX Jazz, Blues and NPR News KNKX on line. They seem to have everything I like. Great DJ’s, awesome playlists, local news reporters who know the area and of course National Public Radio (NPR) for a look inside current events. Then there are the stories, StoryCorp, honoring the lives of everyday Americans, This American Life with Ira Glass and many more. They offer a lot.
Locally KNKX supports our community by hosting many events intended to educate and entertain. But one of their signature outreach programs that has been in place since 2005 is The School of Jazz. KNKX has been committed to jazz education by creating a program that highlights young jazz musicians and student DJ’s from middle school and high school, to college. Recently I was invited to join the KNKX team as a photographer and was able to participate in the most recent live event. The program took place at Seattle Pacific University and brought together students, families and friends to talk with KNKX staff, Joey Cohn, General Manager and DJ Abe Beeson.
